Merlion

Merlion Puzzle
Adding a touch a colour to OWoodz' beautiful Merlion wood puzzle has been fun.

I tried 2 rather different styles. On one side, a more painterly feel while the other is with zentangle.

Which do you prefer? Or perhaps this inspires you to create your own?

Kwan Shan Mei

I bought this (somewhat) old (circa 1983) book yesterday and it comes with very lovely illustration which were credited to Kwan Shan Mei.(Updated Nov 2012: I was informed later that Mdm Kwan herself has said that it was not her work. See comments for this blog).

That started me on a search to know about this illustrator but I was not able to find much on the net except that the Mooty series of books were also by her.

I think it would be great to honour the local illustrators who has been part of our collective visual memory through textbooks, readers and storybooks. So, if you know anything about Shan Mei, please drop me a note.

I also found the following illustration by Shan Mei on flickr.

Wonder

Over at TEDx Singapore, I was asked how I rediscovered wonder. A great prompt. Here's what I said:

It has been especially since I started my Pauseability venture - to see and experience, and to encourage others, to pause and to consider possibilities.

Art has been a large part of this journey. It is not just about technique but an interplay of seeing, wondering and expressing - staying playful being key.

And it is always wonder-full meeting people, in person and through words, and sculpting ideas together.

Joyous Life!

Joyous Life
Just completed training as a Conductorcise conductor. (The photo shows the Conductorcise baton.)

It is truly a wonderful way to bring joy through this unique combination of classical music, exercise and space for pausing as well as personal expression. Conductorcise is accessible to all - young or old, able-bodied or physically and mentally challenged, and brings benefits for body, mind and soul.

I am excited and cannot wait to be able to conductor a session. Interested? Let me know.

IF - Warning

Mudskipper
The mudskippers are territorial and would raise their dorsal fins to warn off the other mudskippers and defend itself.

They have eyes that can blink too. Fascinating fish.
