Screen Age

NEW YEAR 2009 ! from Nomoon on Vimeo.

Some might be a little unused to the music in this piece but the animation is just loads of fun.

A little update on 28 Jan: Saw this and thought it fitted in so well too.

Data, Data

Statistics can seem like such a dry collection of numbers to most of us. It is amazing to see what a little creative zest can do in making them come alive.

This is a great way to fly through chunks of data and make some sense of it. And there is more data visualisation here.

Static infographics are fascinating to look at too. Do enjoy how infrogaghics are so cleverly used in this music video.

Old Singapore

Some things seem to have changed while others seem frozen in time.

Fascinating little clip showing Singapore, possibly in the late 60's, under a sky of the deepest blue.

Home sweet home.

A Baba's Collection and Recollection

A Baba's Collection and Recollection
Richard has the most interesting collection of vintage treasures, especially those connected to his Peranakan heritage. Now, we will get a chance to see some of them and hear some wonderful stories behind them.

Pauseability is proud to host "A Baba's Collection and Recollection" from 12 Feb. Keep an eye on our website for the latest updates.

A*Live Jan 2009

A*live Jan 09
Our first live ATC trade session for the year kicked off very well. Old friends and new mingled and traded cards and laughed.

Then we tried out an art activity. We were each given paper divided into four segments. We then drew in one segment and just a little over to the next. The drawn parts were folded and hidden before passing on to the next person to draw on the next segment. A variety of music was also played as inspiration.

Dont Forget to Remember
This piece turned out beautifully and I have entitled it "Don't Forget to Remember".

We will meet again on 12 Feb, and in conjunction with "A Baba's Collection and Recollection" exhibition at Pauseability, the theme will be Peranakan.

Secret Garden

Chikabo Kumada is an amazing Japanese artist who paints such beautiful works of insects and plants. He is already 97 and continues to paint.

And it is most inspiring to know he "hit his renaissance" only when he turned 70.

Read this wonderful interview and also enjoy more of his works here.

Eco Craftiness - the sequel

Eco Brooch
In an earlier post, I was wondering aloud about what to do with the many old postcards that I have been given.

Here is a whimsical and silly little brooch. For the eco royalty perhaps?

Slow Media

The One Day Poem Pavilion created by Jiyong Song is a fascinating piece of art using shadow and light.

Take a pause and watch it on timelapse video here.

Do also enjoy reading this bit on slow media.

New Haircut

New Haircut
One of the things that I find relaxing is going for a haircut at the barber. Not a hair salon for me, it has to be a barber.

Being terribly myopic, I am at the mercy of the barber as far as hairstyle is concerned. Sometimes, the blur image in the mirror and the sensation of lots of hair being chopped off make me think that I will be shaven bald or given a marine haircut. Yet, it always somehow works out ok. Of course, it helps that barbers are not exactly known for fancy hairstyles.

One of the latest thing on the scene are these $10 for 10 min haircut shops which come with their unqiue set of procedures and equipment, including a good vacuum all over the head at the end of a haircut. I was told that one of them has given numbers to the different guys' hairstyles so that it is easier to say how short you want your hair to be.

As I grow older, and my hair gets thinner, it seems that my standard instruction for my barber has become "just cut the side and the back, leave the top long".

Eco Crafting

First post for the new year. Happy new year.

Been trying to make good use of the many scrap materials I have. Here are some of my recent creations. What animal do you think this is?
Animal

This little tag was made entirely out of junk mail.
Tag from Recycled Paper

I have been given many interesting scraps along the way and a recent addition was 2 bagful of postcards. Seeking ideas as to what can be made out of them. Anyone?
