Rescue
Will our hero save the day and rescue our damsel in distress?

Rescue
This reminds me of plots in black-and-white movies.

KBCC March 2010

KBCC March 2010
It took some nibble fingers to weave words onto a pen, and we all did a pretty good job with this month's KBCC's activity.

SketchWalk Tiong Bahru

SketchWalk Tiong Bahru
It was great spending Saturday morning exploring and sketching at Tiong Bahru.

Not only was the neighbourhood a very colourful place to enjoy as we walk through largely the pre-war section, the company of very talented artists made it even more exciting.

Some of us shared our morning's sketches at the end of the walk.

Sketchwalk Tiong Bahru
This sketchwalk was my first. Drawing in public can be rather intimidating and having the company of others help. I made 4 sketches in total.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Joan Bowen

It was an unexpected find for a serendipitous lunch that made my day.

Joan Bowen is a little jewel of a restaurant tucked away along MacPherson Road just after passing the famous but now defunct MacPherson Market.

Jeanne started this social enterprise to empower youths and children with special needs. The 8-month old restaurant's ambience is warm, the food is delicious and very reasonably priced and most of all, she has created a very supportive environment there for those with special needs to serve whether as waiters or in the kitchen. And she plans to do more. Kudos to you Jeanne!

I like their tagline: a place where we dare to care. Do drop by soon.

Dine in the Dark

Dine-in-the-Dark
Lunching in total darkness was a brand new experience. The folks at SAVH did a great job making it an assuring step out of our comfort zones.

Dine-in-the-Dark
Together with 17 others, we were served by the visually impaired a lunch like no others.

From the moment we were lead into the dinning area, we were enveloped in pitch darkness, not being able to see even my own fingers. Very gently, we were guided through our meal - figuring out how to pour a cup of juice (mine overflowed), know what is on our plate and to get that into our mouth (some landed on my shirt, with track marks of sauce to show for it), enjoying the heightened sensation of smell - and all the while still able to have conversation with our fellow diners.

Just listening to voices while chatting was interesting too, especially since most of us were new to each other.

Dine-in-the-Dark
Pauseability is happy to have been able to organise this. Do consider this unique experience and at the same time support a very worthy cause.

A*Live Mar2010

A*Live Mar 2010
For this month's ATC meet, we tried out perspective drawing. Something seemingly technical and dry but we did enjoy ourselves.

We are consolidating our pieces on Eating with the Family and looking forward to the exhibition at The Arts House in May. This same theme will continue for one more month.

We meet again at Bishan Library on 8 Apr.

Portrait Day

One of the things I have been able to do this year is to join OIC's Portrait Day.

A key thing about art is developing the skill of seeing, which many of us don't, especially when we are rushing about. So having someone sitted for 20 minutes for you to draw is a privilege.

What you see is Don's work and he sure is experienced and talented. A pleasant surprise to have been drawn. Notice how he creates the sense of motion in my left arm. Thanks Don!
