Interestingly I recently created an ATC about Rapunzel and then came across this article about the physics behind Rapunzel's hair and the weight hair can hold.
I am also reminded of a Chinese idiom that describes a precarious situation as having a thousand jun hanging on a strand of hair 千钧一发. And that's much much more than 3.5 ounces or 2 candy bars. (1 jun is an ancient unit equivalent to 30 catties.)
