Lavish Grace
This season means many things to different people. One of them would be to remember the birth of Jesus who made it possible for us to experience the lavish grace of God and to live every moment in God's abundant favour and with unspeakable joy.
Blessed Christmas!

A*Live December
This month, we tried our hands at creating art using pointilism. Drawing using just dots is as fun as it is challenging. As usual, the creativity of everyone is just wonderful to enjoy.
Next session is on 13 January and the theme is Chinese New Year.

IF - Savour
One of the things to savour when eating delicious fried hokkien prawn mee is the lingering smell of lime on your fingers after squeezing the lime over the piping hot noodles.

A*Live Nov 2010
This month, we had a colourful time learning from Tia. She generously shared her sketches, showed us her tools, gave us some neat tricks and taught us about colour theory.
And then we all attempted to create our own colour wheel.
These are some of the new ATCs.
More photos here.
We meet again on 9 Dec and the theme is "Merry".

IF-Afterwards
You know those little stands that you can clip a note or photo to?
It usually works well as a reminder - from a note to yourself perhaps about something to do afterwards or you place a photo afterwards to remember an occasion or a person from before.
For Illustration Friday.
Also sent it over for Design Sponge's Alphabet Contest.

I Won
I found myself a surprise winner of a set of cool zines from Steve.
I enjoyed Steve's post about the zine fest he was in and must confess that I missed the last para about the giveaway. So, it was such a delight to realise that my comment being the second one meant receiving a very generous gift from Steve.

This other classic based on old mosiac flooring is fantastic too.

A*Live Oct 2010
The October ATC session saw a more intimate crowd.
The theme was Artist. There was an art appreciation game followed by all of us trying to extend the work of a famous artist.
And we had some interesting ATCs based on the theme too.
The next session is on 11 Nov and the theme is "Building".

Vicki's Little Li-zee
Vicki makes wonderfully fine little felt creatures and pasteries. I was given Little Li-zee.
She hopes to sell her creations and I think her creativity and fine workmanship would be appreciated by many.
I wish her all the best!

IF- Transportation
Read about Buckminister Fuller's Dymaxion car as I was thinking about this week's Illustration Friday topic. Also wanted to try creating something largely blue and pink. This is what resulted.
Not quite sure I did justice to my representation of the man.

Sketchwalk: Cityhall
Spent a great Saturday morning at Cityhall and the old Supreme Court with the Sketchwalkers. We had a history expert share intriguing nuggets along the way. The architectural detail and history there are wonderful.
I drew exclusively with my (economical) fountain pen. The works of the others, especially with watercolour, were very impressive.
The grey tones for this was added digitally.
One of the sketchwalkers, Parka, took some cool photos.
And I love this closing shot by Carol.

This is a beautiful mosiac creation by Charley Harper. He has such a distinct style in his graphic designs and this comes through so well in this mosaic design too.

Ink
A combination of inspirations here: the fingertip PopCorn brush, fountain pen and a visit to Cheong Soo Pieng's exhibition.
Painting and drawing with Chinese ink is great fun. Drawing inspiration from Cheong Soo Pieng's works which I saw yesterday was a delight.
This has been a fun exploration on many fronts.

My Illustrations
At the risk of sounding boostful, I would say that just moments ago when I was looking at the thumbnails of my Illustration flickr set, I thought the colour and texture was most fascinating.
Didn't know how to do a screencapture that included scrolling down. So, this was pieced together and repositioned using Photoshop.

PopCorn Brush
So excited to finally have the chance to try out this amazing Japanese brush - a brush that fits the fingertip.
Drawing is literally at the tip of your finger. This is the first thing I drew. Using the PopCorn brush is as much fun as creating the art.
Hope to make it available in Singapore soon through A Rhyming Tern.

A*Live Sep 2010
What an overwhelming number we had at today's ATC session. We needed to have extra tables brought in. A fitting way to celebrate Bishan Library's 4th anniversary too.
Too bad my camera died on me after 3 shots.
Hopefully some of the rest will send me some of the photos, especially of the ATCs we created.
Next session: 14 Oct (Thu).
Update: We have some photos from the librarian. Click here.

Hatching a Logo
It was fun designing of a logo for my Rhyming Tern site.
When most people hear "A Rhyming Tern", some thought they heard "a Remington" - presumably thinking of a Remingtons Typwriter and not the gun.
Putting the tern and the typewriter together, it looks a little like the tern was trying to hatch an egg. And perhaps that is what the artful creative life is like sometimes - a sitting and waiting. Doing little, yet doing what is so needful.
So, when it came to the logo's frame, I decided to make it in the shape of an egg. It also looks a little like the outline of an island. Imagine the waves lapping up on every side.
What do you think of the logo?
